Stakeholder Engagement
CONSULTING SERVICES

Align around a common goal

We often say that clients hire us either when something really bad has happened with their stakeholder engagement efforts or when they are being intentional about creating a positive and effective stakeholder experience from the on-set of an effort. While we prefer the latter situation, we are well-equipped to help your organization right your stakeholder ship.

We define stakeholder as anyone who has a stake in the outcome of a particular effort. Stakeholder engagement then starts with identifying and understanding those who matter most to your effort. Important questions at this stage include: what is their proximity to your organization, their level of influence, their overall stake in the outcome and the issues that matter most to them. We understand your past experiences and desired future and develop a stakeholder engagement plan that seeks to align vision, build consensus and develop a path forward through a shared purpose.

Depending on the engagement approach for each stakeholder, we may recommend in-depth one on one interviews, small or large group facilitations, team building workshops, surveys and visual communication vehicles tools that provide a clear, visual roadmap to success. The key to our approach with you is that we don’t believe in cookie-cutter engagement approaches; rather, we bring best practices and tools to our discussion with you to ensure you receive a plan that is tailored to your and your stakeholders’ needs.

FRAMING MATTERS TO ENGAGE COMMUNITIES IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Working with Information Insights, Milepost Consulting served as lead researcher by designing and conducting a series of community working groups to explore five Alaskan communities’ interest in and use of energy efficiency and conservation. The study, sponsored by the Alaskan Energy Authority, also includes a statewide telephone interview, and Internet-based survey. Further, different approaches to communication frames were tested with results showing a preference for a social norming and monetary gain frame for all energy efficiency and conservation measures tested. Results have informed the potential design of a communications campaign and program materials. A key element of this study is integration of best practices for communicating energy efficiency and conservation practices to encourage immediate action and persistent savings in future campaign efforts.
