WHO WE WORK WITH
Know your audience and get them engaged

Engaging a community around a call to action begins with listening. What matters to them? What do they need in order to participate? What language do we need to use to communicate effectively? Milepost works with community leaders to find answers to these questions so that a tailored approach for engagement can be created and achieve maximum impact.
  • Facilitated Forums
Achieving group consensus takes time but when done well facilitated forums for conversation can be established and yield unanticipated benefits. Milepost has a successful history of bringing together diverse community groups with practical and engaging exercises that add both fun and function to the process of identifying insights and defining desired outcomes.

  • Community Input
Providing communities the opportunity to share their thoughts without the pressure of an audience is highly valuable. Crafting the right questions to gain the deepest insight can make all the difference. We work with clients to design surveys that benchmark the thoughts and feelings of participants at the beginning of, during and after an engagement to measure any shifts that occur in perceptions, awareness, and action. Surveys may include electronic questionnaires, one on one interviews, small focused group discussions and community forums.

  • Program Design
Programs intended to engage a broad or targeted community segment will achieve when they consider best practices for individual and group engagement. Keep it simple, make it meaningful, celebrate success, make it seamless with everyday life and create a sense of “we” are a few that we consider particularly important. Our field tested approach to program design ensures development of a person-centric program that is engaging, measurable and successful.

GREATER EFFICIENCY THROUGH MEETING PEOPLE ON THEIR TERMS
Led the design process for the 2012 Community Initiative in the Energy Efficiency Department of Snohomish County Public Utility District. Facilitated the transition from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act [ARRA] funded programming to non ARRA funded programming. Activities included a review of the past and identification of significant successes to carry forward, a current state analysis of available assets, and the design of a future program which leverages those established strengths and the existing opportunities. Other activities included support for the close out of ARRA reporting during program transition and quality assurance of subcontractor activities. Deliverables included an interactive asset map, a common vision of the future state, a program functional model, and a working roadmap and implementation timeline to guide 2012 activities. Learn More

COACHING COMMUNITY GROUPS TO DESIGN BEHAVIOR CHANGE PROGRAMS
In close collaboration with the Office of Sustainability staff, we designed a targeted outreach program aimed at developing behavior change projects among local environmental groups and community based organizations. The effort had a specific focus on the monitoring and evaluation of the projects against the City’s climate action goals. Our team employed a user-centric development approach through the interviewing of key stakeholders and community representatives to inform the program design, ensuring alignment with local priorities and energies. The program engages project groups throughout the project life cycle, providing financial and technical support to award recipients, educating project groups on behavior change best practices, program design, and program evaluation methods. Learn More
